Hi Martin! New video of Fame here
we are working on rear crosses regularly, this is where we’re at right now. And, for the first time, we did wing + tunnel sequence with “speed” and toy reward. I have a few questions as usual 😀
I wanted to start introducing a low bar, because when I leave it on the ground she sometimes steps on it. I don’t have a puppy bump, so my idea was to set the bar at around 10–15 cm (My physio said that’s totally fine physically, since Fame is quite tall and it wouldn’t make any difference for her).
The only problem is that I can only do it with the jumps we have at the training field, cause with the ones I have at home, the lowest I can set is 20–25 cm (which feels a bit too high for now) So I’ve just been resting the bar on the jump cups. she occasionally touches it but doesn’t really notice…
I wanted to ask what you think: should I keep it like that, or do something different?
At first, I didn’t want to make a big deal out of it, but since she touches it quite often, I started trying a few things. When she did the correct behavior but touched the bar, I rewarded with food; when she cleared it cleanly, I used the toy as a higher-value reward.
Also, as you can see in the video I am not really testing her rear crosses too much, I always try to help her with the starting position and/or with the toy. She’s having a lot of successful tries this way, let me know if you think I should start to test her a bit more or not.
We also tried some wing–tunnel work, she’s really trying hard! I can tell it’s still a bit difficult for her to slow down/accelerate because she’s tall and has grown a lot in a short time. Let me know what you think about this stage, if it’s fine to continue as we are, or adjust something.
Thank you!
